Crafty Fall Fun

Just wanted to share some of the crafty fall things I am working on.
The first is a fun harvest banner for the family room.
The penant shapes are recycled cereal boxes, covered in scrapbook paper.
I made the letters with the Cricut, Storybook Cartridge.
The embellishments are different dies and punches.

This is the fall wallhanging I have been working on. It is made from Moda's Grand Finale. The center is a printed panel. I don't normally work with stuff like this, but I fell in love with the fabric. I have added a 1 1/2" border and will later add the half square triangles. I made those from 5" charm packs from the same fabric line.

I discovered a really nifty way to make the half square triangles.
Take 2 charms, layer them right sides together.
Sew around all 4 sides of the squares, using a 1/4" seam. Cut the squares twice on each diagonal and voila! You have 4 half square triangles. I squared mine to 3".

As soon as I can figure the math to make all the sides come out evenly I will finish it. I am going to quilt it on my regular sewing machine, it isn't really big enough to put in the quilt frame.

Thanks for looking!

Family Ties

On a fall getaway weekend Tracy and I took a detour to Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead KY. Found the grave of my father, his parents and lots of relatives.
I don't remember my father-he died when I was 17 months old. For some reason I felt compelled to go here. It didn't make me sad to see the grave, but it did make me think about how different things would have been if I had known him.
I know God can bring good from bad-but it does make me wonder...

What I have been working on...

Here is an update to the quilt-finished!
Hand delivered to Kathy in Pilot Mountain, NC!
She loved it....

I had a friend ask me to make her 6 altered composition books-they turned out so great-but I forgot to take a picture. I thought I would take a picture of the huge mess I made making them-but I cleaned that up! They really were great....

I did remember to take a picture of the quilt I am working on. I have the machine quilting done-now need to get the binding on it-by Thursday! I will see the friend I am making it for on Thursday, so I want to take it to her. She lives 8 hours from me, so I want to have it ready to deliver!
It is made with 2 Moda charm packs, and some extra yardage. The pattern is a free one from Moda, "2 Charm Pack and one yard plus..." Not a very creative name, but its a fun pattern. It is a lap quilt, for the back of her couch. I hope she likes it!

Yep--this is the baby today!

Happy Birthday, baby girl!

Today my baby girl turns 28! Hard to believe either one of us are that old!
She is a blessing to the family....She babysits the boys (dog boys and little boys), brings books home from the library for us, gives fashion advice-and criticism....
She is a wealth of useful and useless knowledge--and if she doesn't know something-she knows how to find out!
We love you--
